Fanzing's 2nd Annual

Swimsuit Challenge

RESULTS!

This pic of Saturn girl was submitted by "Green". As an edit of some existing artwork, it was ineligible for the contest but looks pretty cool! Good job!

Our last contest asked artists to create versions of DC Characters in swimsuits. Last year's swimsuit challenge was our most popular art contest ever…and this year we got even more entries. TWENTY-ONE in all!

Here are the results. As always, click on the thumbnail to download the full size picture:

Starfire

Artist: Ray of Ray's Super-Heroines
Starfire never looked more breathtaking than in this pic

Arisia

Artist: Melissa Wilson
This shot of Arisia of the Green Lantern Corps. It's definitely some of Melissa's best work ever!

Batman in briefs

Artist: Josh Howell
Boxers or Briefs? We find out in this shot by

Anarky

Artist: Mary Cohen
Anarky in a swimsuit

Bruce Wayne

Artist: S. Blank
A little something for the ladies! This is definitely a classy pic of Bruce Wayne.

Black Canary

Artist: Joshua De Lava
Black Canary always looks tempting, but never more than in this rendering by Fanzing newcomer Joshua De Lava. More, Josh, MORE!

Catwoman

Artist: John D. Williams
Catwoman in her classic cat o'nine tails and high heels outfit. (I should mention that the "Fanzing Dominatrix Challenge" isn't for a couple of months.)

Big Barda

Artist: Christian Moore
Big Barda seems to be popular during these swimsuit contests! I wonder why?

Green Lantern Corps

Artist: The Brothers Grinn
The Green Lantern Corps have been absent from the DCU for a while…and now we see another reason or three to bring them back.

Harley Quinn

Artist: Josh Howell
Harley Quinn continues to be one of the most popular animated DC characters ever!

Infinitors at the Beach

Artist: Marcus Jackson
ANOTHER newcomer to Fanzing! Infinity Inc goes to the beach, eh? Here's a scary thought: Mr. Bones isn't wearing a bathing suit! I realize his flesh is transparent, but STILL!

The Justice League Second Stringers

Artist: Brothers Grinn

Barda again! Here we see all of the JLA's backup members. There's Zauriel in the sky, Mr. John Henry Irons is gleaming in the background there. Huntress shows off her tushie in a rather scanty bikini. And Barda wears a delightful red and yellow one-piece. Waitaminute! RED and YELLOW? Do you think she knows that she's wearing PLASTIC MAN?

No wonder he's smiling!

Supergirl

Artist: Victoria E. Williams
Here's a startling entry by a new artist who I hope contributes more in the future! Supergirl reclines in a jungle…or does she? That's the Earth in the background. Obviously, this must be a terrarium section of the JLA watchtower. I hope Victoria will send us as much artwork as possible before she starts doing covers for DC!

Swimsuit Imps

Artist: Bill Wiist
Swimsuit Imps.

Titans at the Pool

Artist: Marcus Mebes
The artist offers this dialogue to accompany the piece:
Argent: "There is, like, NO WAY I'm gonna get in that pool."
Troia: "It's getting way too crowded in here."
Starfire: "Sigh… Dick; speedo; those lips… sigh…"
Changeling: "Oh, PARDON ME, Jesse. Don't let ME get in your way!"
Jesse Quick: "Okay, listen, jerk: They CHOSE me! YOU'RE the one who didn't join!"
Arsenal: "Good thing Grant's all the way back on the other side of the pool!"
Lian: "I gotta tinkle, Daddy. I really gotta go! Now."
Tempest: "Ch-ch-chlorine…. Must… get… out…"
Nightwing: "I better not be seen like this."
Harlequin: "They're not even gonna know I was in this picture! Hee heee!"
Flash: "SorryIcan'tjoinyouguysbutIgottabeinOslofiveminutesagohavefunbye!"

Wonder Woman

Artist: Joey Fuentes
One of two Wonder Woman pics, this one is in the Paul Dini animated style.

Superboy

Artist: Mark Smith
Superboy

Supergirl

Artist: Mark Smith

Supergirl does some spearfishing.

Don't tell Aquaman.

Wonder Woman

Artist: Mark Smith
Wonder Woman plays some volleyball!

Wonder Girl

Artist: Bill Walko
WonderGirl relaxes in a bikini!

Starfire

Artist: Bill Walko
Just as it says…Starfire heats things up!

This was EXTREMELY difficult to judge. I thought the contest was over as soon as The Brothers Grinn sent in the very first entry (Big Barda wearing Plastic Man), but then a week would go by and I'd get ANOTHER fantastic entry, each unique in terms of detailed art or imagination or humor. Frankly, I've been wondering how we could change the judging, since it's unfair to compare a humorous entry with a cutting-edge computer-modeled entry and a photo-realistic picture. But I'm not going to change the judging now, so here are the results:

TOP ENTRY: Starfire by Ray of Ray's Super-Heroines
Second Place (Tied): Swimsuit Imps by Bill Wiist and Supergirl by Victoria E. Williams
Honorable Mentions: Black Canary by Joshua De Lava and both entries by the Brothers Grinn (Actually, they'd probably have won if the votes hadn't been split by their two entries).
