The entries (and results)
are in for our Painting Parody art challenge! Let's see the entrants
first...
"Lobo Nisa" by Yusuf Madhiya - Yusuf parodies the classic "Mona
Lisa" in a brutal, Loboesque form! And, eww yuck, what did Lobo
do to the artist's arm?
"Death of Jericho" by Rachel Ehrlich is done after Michaelangelo's
"Pieta." Rachel notes that she took liberties with Raven's costume,
giving her the old blue one instead of the white she actually wore
at the time, since Mary is usually depicted in blue.
"Lobo's Creation" by Yusuf Madhiya - Here's another great painting
parody featuring Lobo (and the Joker)! This time Yusuf parodies
Michaelangelo's
"Creation of Adam." Gotta love having the chain where the fig
leaf should be!
"Knighthawks" by our contest's most reliable contributors, The Brothers
Grinn. This work is after Edward
Hopper's "Nighthawks" and it thoroughly captures the
original while providing a bit of humor. (I always wondered if Batman
needed a break after crouching above a gargoyle for hours on end.)
"Nightmare" by Christopher Tupa, after The
Nightmare by Fuseli. Christopher's painting is well done, and
rather inspired. I have to say, this is the funniest thing I've
ever seen Bat-Mite in!
"The Last Supper" by Larry O'Keefe, after Leonardo
da Vinci's "The Last Supper". Larry is another newcomer
to Fanzing, and he is off to a great start right out of the gate.
It's a cliche, but we say it because it's true: They're all good,
and it's hard to decide. Our panel of judges went back and forth
on it. All six entries were picked as winners by at least one of
the judges, and we ended up breaking a tie.
For humor, talent and imagination, we went with Larry O'Keefe's
The Last Supper. Well done, Larry! All five other competitors came
in a close second or third.
Well done, each and every one of you.
