Alan Kistler's List of Articles

Alan P. Kistler is a New Yorker in his mid-twenties who works as a freelance video editor and has been recognized by AOL Time Warner as a "comic book historian", a label he got from articles of Wikipedia.org and several of his readers. He enjoys the title very much and loves the opportunity of writing these articles for Monitor Duty, run by the ever-patient Michael Hutchison. His fan-fiction blog can be found HERE. He would love to write for DC and Marvel some day. He also wants to time travel.

Man, I can't tell you how much I enjoy coming to this site to read these profiles! You do an excellent job of covering major events in a characters life with just a hint of commentary to keep things interesting. Well done.

Is there a chance for a profile on The Phantom Stranger, Dr. Fate or The Haunted Tank? (or any other DC war comic for that matter; The Unknown Soldier, Sgt. Rock, etc.) I just remember bits and pieces of these characters from my childhood and would love to get their full story.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

KISTLER'S RESPONSE:
Phantom Stranger, maybe. Dr. Fate, absolutely. Sgt. Rock, not a bad idea actually. The Haunted Tank? Man, THERE'S a name that takes me back! :-P. Mainly I've been focusing on characters who have been altered in their portrayal or origin details over the years, but perhaps I might tackle some of the more straight-forward characters as well. We'll see.

And thanks very much for the kinds words.

Hey, Alan. Not sure if you remember me but we had a long talk at DJ Reynolds - where you filled me in on whats been going in both the DC and Marvel universes. Really got me back into the old stories that I loved when I was younger. I have enjoyed your profiles a whole lot and look forward to future articles. Hope to have another conversation with you in the future as well.

Keep up the good work.

KISTLER'S RESPONSE:
Of course I remember you, Keith. GLad you enjoyed the profiles and what not. Next up will be Firestorm and then Captain America. In the meantime, I'll e-mail you and we can chat. Take care!

I love reading your articles. I'm relatively new to comics and they help me quite a bit. I was wondering if you had a batman profile in the works.

KISTLER'S RESPONSE:
Currently, my next profiles are to finish the Captain America one and then do one on Wonder Woman. Batman I think I might hold off on just because there's SO much information there (even more than my Superman article). But we'll see.

Alan, I have to say you are an amazing person. I have just discovered your work and I love it. I especially enjoyed your article on Aquaman. That is reason for this post. I would like to get started on reading the Aquaman series and was wondering if you could tell me how to get started. I have no idea about comics and stuff like that but am willing to learn. Let me know your thoughts.
