And a good deal of manga has some exceptionally good stories, many of which are interesting due to the different point of view that they present. (Often a mixed one, given translation.)
The art is more than big eyes, but that is what many distill it to. Still, try bringing up Lone Wolf and Cub to Scott McCullar. While you're at it, try comparing all superhero artists to one trait. Every art style has masters, clones aping it, and more diversity than given credit.
Now DC seeking a manga editor -- somehow I don't think it's a reprint/translation editor.
Maybe they're hoping to peck at some of the numbers Japan gets. The #1 comics creator over there... iirc a woman... earns (we're talking dollar conversion) several million a year.
I don't know.
But I do know this: I've seen enough types of manga to know that they have something for everyone that likes comics. (In much the same way that American comics have something for everyone. The trick is finding it while certain folks say 'all there is is this big eye/superhero crap!')
