Welcome to Brainstorm's Corner, a monthly springboard showcase. A springboard, basically a one-page prose summary of a comic book story, is the format used for submitting stories to companies such as DC Comics. In one page, a writer must describe the plot while also trying to make it as intriguing as possible. It's quite a challenge!

Brainstorm's Corner gives YOU, the reader, the chance to critique the story before a writer sends it off to every editor at DC. So let Fanzing know…would you pay to read this? If not, why not?

Batman, future evolution
by "Joekerr"
Everyone knows that Batman was created in 1939, everyone also knows that Batman isn't a sixty years old caped crime fighter. Why might you ask? The Batman has constently evolved, his origins updated, and with DC comics parrallel Earth concept explained this evolution. This lead Batman to become a daylight super cop, an inter-planetary crusader, a psychotic vigilante and a obsessed crime fighter. Each era has it's Batman, the forties had the gun fighting Batman, the sixties a camp crusader, the 70's had the world's greatest detective. This reflection on the character's past lead me to an observation on how the future Batman will look and be updated.I had that idea of doing some character's new designs and storylines last year, when the Batman special (with a Batman for the new millennium contest) was released and that I've heard from John's Byrne Batman/ Superman generations, and the news of Batman beyond. all those things together lead me to imagine the future of Gotham city, the world of BATMAN: 2939

The Setting: After the war
After the second Galactic war, the sucessfull forces of Earth we're badly damaged, Metropolis, Gotham, Gateway, they were all destroyed, one corporation was able build a new home for mens and womens, this is how the first Giant Tower-city was built, on the spot where the City of Gotham once stood. This new future was the creation of Metropolis first citizen, Lex Luthor IV. twenty years passed, Three Giant Tower-city were built after Gotham, Metropolis, Keystone and Gateway. Th rest of our planet now is a giant garden, used tofeed the citizens of the giant towers. Lex corp is nowm the possesion of Lex Luthor V.
Gotham Tower: just like the old one
Gotham tower, the first human construction to ever be fused with our natural satellite. Even for a gigantic construction, this tower still is the first one ever to be built. Everything is low-tech. Crime is rampant because criminal elements stayed in Gotham when construction was finished. All this makes Gotham look like the city wich she's built on, hell on Earth.

Characters:
Batman: Bruce Wayne, life-support controller?
Bruce's parents were murdered by an agent of Gotham Tower's mob boss. He had no money and no Alfred to take care of him. Still he was able to learn an important quantity of Martial arts, and dectective skills. But these skills are not enough in the world of 2939. You need more protection, you need to be strong enough to stop venom enhanced criminals, you need a headquarters, you need the impossible. Bruce found the impossible. When Bruce single handedly saved the life of Gotham's mayor, he made him the new city life-support controller, a easy job with lots of power and connections. With his new status, Bruce was able to build himself equiment and a super-costume able to strike fear in the hearts of criminals. To make himself scarier, Bruce made his costume so he looked like a giant bat, an animal long forgotten, destroyed a thousand years ago. Thus was born the Batman.

Robin: Dick Grayson, Street-punk!
Batman had been wounded, young Dick Grayson had witnessed his parents murder at the hands of the same man who was about to kill Batman. With his almost forgotten aerial performer skills young Dick saved Batman, Batman saw that they're was potential in the young boy, and made him his partner. Batman even revealed his identity to the kid, he later adopted Dick.

Joker: Jack Napier, a boxer turned into a mass-murdering clown
Jack Napier was a old has-been boxer when a mob boss forced him to test a new prototype drug. Jack was drastically mutated into the Joker. This Joker can be invisible and he can fight Batman to a standstill thanks to his drug enhancement!

This is all for Gotham 2939, if you have any questions on my concept, just e-mail me!

So, what did you think ? Was it good? Was it lousy? Would you fork over $2 and up to read it? Should DC hire this person immediately and you'll burn your collection (or at least Brother Power The Geek) if it doesn't happen?

Perhaps you would like to hold up your naked ideas for over 1500 people to see? If so, first check out DC's submission guidelines (available here thanks to Jon Karl Franklin Haynes).
